I had to redesign Roberta Plank for both practical and stylised way. First practica reasons, I had to shorten Roberta's hair, I realised how much it'll get in the way and take up space. Second. Roberta's feet design, I made them tip-toed, like in Cartoon Network "Powerpuff Girls", for her to look more rounder and it will easier to make her skip around with feet like that.
I just met up with Cassie, Jack (from year 1) and Nins. They are still interested in the project, which is still a good sign! 8) Thankfully they all have drawing tablets and programs that will be needed to be used for "Fy Chwaer". I gave them all different jobs too. Cassie is animating doing a short sequence of Emileena Plank scooping sugar off a spoon, hopefully done in 2 weeks! Jack is animating the two sisters fighting over a cake, hopefully done in 3 weeks! And Nins is doing a long background pan of the kitchen.
This is almost the final animatic! just a few tweaks, like having Emileena in it more!
Here's a test of Emileena Plank in the eefnvironment my film. I am going for a "Dexter's Laboratory" look, with the 90s grain.... although I think I should make it look more 70s to be honest!
These backgrounds are infulenced by UPA animation and Dexter's Lab backgrounds, at the momentI want to gift the film a film grainy feel!
An episode of Dexter's Lab, called the Muffin King... Sounds familiar???
Yeeeeeaaaahhhh... I do not think my presentation when very well. Since we were told that we were not doing one, I was not prepared.
The tutors told me that it they could not remember my last animatic, which was not a good sign, the music was too distracting and they did not like the new style I was going for. At last I think I am near to finished with my Preproduction stuff. I DO NOT OWN THE MUSIC, THE MUSIC IS CALLED "HAPPY FEET" BY PAUL WHITEMAN, IN THE 1940s 8/. THIS IS JUST THE SCRATCH MUSIC, I WILL MOST PROBABLY WOULD NOT USE IT IN MY FINAL PIECE!
..... With that out of they way, I was surprised how quick I made this, after spending couple of weeks pondering what changes I should do. In the end result, this film is like I wanted a quirky old fashion cartoon (but hopefully animated better than Saturday cartoon). Also a interesting look came up while I made it, to save time I just coloured the sisters in one colour, and this really look nice! I am considering to have my film coloured like this in the film! I think I shall go back to my original idea and have Emileena to bake a cake, but this time I'll make it like a its a chemical formula in a cook book. She can use tradition chemistry equipment to bake the cake and in the cook book there is chemical symbols and diagrams of making a Madeira cake.
It has been fun looking at all the symbols and chemical names of the ingredients of a cake! Also it can be a bit more visually symbolic, Emileena can be looking at a blank rectangle frame, needing a picture and Roberta is licking a round empty plate, wanting food. And at the end, Emileena has been give a picture for her frame on a round doily and Roberta is given a square cake to eat (and share!). This show that the sisters need each other and there oppersite skills to be |
